Interim Director, NICU
JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Director of the Neonatal Nurseries works closely with the Nurse Directors of Labor & Delivery/Antepartum, and Post Partum-OB/Gyn/Nursery. Coordinates c are as it relates to neonates and, therefore, assists Directors of these areas in providing a full scope of quality services. Interacts with physicians on staff and their office personnel to assure their needs are met. Also interacts with the Education and Marketing Departments to provide these services to new parents.
RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the Level II and III Nurseries (Transitional Nursery, Level II and III Nurseries). The Neonatal Nursery Director is responsible for the department's continuous, effective operation and for the continuous improvement of its activities. These responsibilities encompass not only the department's internal functioning, but also its integration into the organization's overall functioning. The Nurse Director oversees care of patients, including neonates and infants. Responsible and accountable for nursing care rendered in the de partment, based on the Nursing Process--assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in compliance with Hospital policies and procedures. Responsible for coordination and integration of intradepartmental services and interdepartmental services, which includes ancillary departments. Assures development and implementation of policies and procedures in conjunction with the Medical Director of NICU and the Chairman of Pediatrics, who guide and support the provision of services. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide care for the patients in Neonatal Nurseries. Responsible for determination of the qualifications and competence of personnel in the Neonatal Nurseries who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners. Assures continuous assessment and performance improvement of care and services provided in the Neonatal Nurseries. Responsible for maintaining quality control programs, as appropri ate. Assures appropriate orientation and inservice training and continuing education of all personnel in the NICU. Provides recommendations for space and other resources needed by the Neonatal Nurseries. Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department or the organization. Integrates service into the organization's primary functions. Maintains and improves own nursing knowledge.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
-At least three years of current/recent NICU/Nursery experience and two years of current/recent management experience.
-BSN required
LICENSURE
Licensure in the state of placement will be required. Candidates with Compact Licensure are preferred, with the ability to obtain licensure in other states as needed.
