New Zealand: where you can advance your career in a variety of Emergency Medicine departments and regions throughout the country. From Southland to Whangarei, eighteen hospitals are approved for emergency medicine training. All Districts and their regions have something to offer. While some offer regional rural experience, others offer urban district or major referral experience.
The training programme
In New Zealand the Junior Doctor training year commences on the 29th of January 2024.
Each region in New Zealand has its own training programme and we would encourage you to seek information on these via the individual Te Whatu Ora District websites (www.aucklanddoctors.co.nzwebsite for the Auckland region). In addition, further information can be found on the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). This is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine in New Zealand and Australia.
Eligibility criteria
The following will be required:
- Preferably six months in Emergency Medicine runs (Paediatric Emergency Medicine is counted)
- Minimum post graduate Year 3 (PGY3/FY3) or above
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
